Many know California as wine country, and rightfully so. If you’re interested in good wine, a serene environment, and a great experience overall… head to California. Before you say it, we’ll let you know that without proper instruction in terms of where to go, you’ll probably be overwhelmed. Don’t worry, we’ve compiled a great list that includes the top six wineries in California so that you at least have a solid place to start.
Melville Winery & Vineyards
About 12 miles from the Pacific Ocean near Santa Barbara, in Lompoc, California, sits Melville Winery & Vineyard. The property sits amidst the ever popular Santa Ynez Valley, made famous by movies and television shows for it’s lush landscapes. The winery itself is a picturesque villa, complete with French doors and a gorgeous patio. There’s an area for tasting, as well as an area where you can picnic and enjoy the finest Pinot Noir while you overlook the Vineyard.
Sonoma County is famous for its wine, and countless vineyards dot the countryside. Stryker Sonoma is the best of the best when it comes to what you’ll find in Sonoma. It’s been nestled in Alexander Valley since it was founded in 1999, and includes a tasting room with a glass wall for the best views that overlook the terraced vineyard. Unsure of what you want? Get a wine flight. Sit back, and enjoy the afternoon.
Ferrari-Carano Vineyards & Winery
Chardonnay lovers will want to spend some time at Ferrari-Carano in Healdsburg, California, also in Sonoma County. This vineyard sits on the upper portion of the Dry Creek Valley appellation, and has the best views you’ll find of Lake Sonoma. Feel free to participate in a tasting in their underground Enoteca Reserve Tasting Bar & Lounge, or stroll through the 5 acre tulip gardens with a glass in hand.
Flowers Vineyard & Winery
Prefer something a little more coastal? Stop by Flowers Vineyard & Winery on the Sonoma Coast. The wines at this property are award winning, specifically their Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, and the views are second to none. The landscape is that of lush green trees, mountains, and though not situated right on the water, you’ll feel a cool breeze and recognize the familiar sights, smells and sounds that come along with the grand Pacific.
Perhaps the most famous place in California to try some amazing wines is Napa Valley. It’s there where the Hall Wines estate is situated, perched high above the Rutherford appellation. Hall boasts two tasting rooms, one more intimate home-type setting that overlooks the vineyards, and one 14,000 square feet underground cellar for events and private tastings.
Before you leave Napa Valley, venture into the Carneros appellation to try one of the worlds best sparkling wines. This winery is a French-style estate with supreme views actually has table service on the terrace, which is extremely rare for a California winery. What does this mean? Take in the views with your loved one while being served the finest bottles and flights, cheese plates, caviar, or smoked salmon. It doesn’t get much better than that.
There are many other wineries that you may want to try, but you absolutely won’t go wrong if you start with this list. Enjoy![Image Credit]
