Did you know “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest,” a Jack Nicholson classic and Oscar Best Picture winner premiered at Chicago’s Esquire Theater, which is now home to the stunning Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steak House Chicago?
To pay homage to the restaurant’s history and celebrate the Oscars, a selection of cocktails inspired by this year’s Best Picture nominees are now featured at Del Frisco’s Chicago, including:
- By the Hair of the Bear (Bulliet Rye Whiskey, Kahlua, orange bitters)
- Storm on Mars (Beefeater Gin, Lillet, orange juice, Grenadine, Angostura bitters)
- 10 Year Sentence (Eagle Rare 10 year Bourbon, dry sherry, Cointreau, lemon juice, Angostura bitters)
Bridge of Spies
10 Year Sentence
- 2 oz. Eagle Rare 10 year Bourbon
- 1 oz. Dry Sherry
- ½ oz. Cointreau
- ½ oz. Lemon Juice
- 2 dashes Angostura Bitters
Shake and serve over rocks. Top with a splash of soda and garnish with a lemon peel
*The 10 year whiskey represents the sentence Mr. Powers faces.
By the Hair of the Bear
- 4 oz. Bulliet Rye Whiskey
- 1 oz. Half and Half
- ½ oz. Kahlua
- ½ oz. Tuaca
- 1 Dash of Orange Bitters
Shake and pour into a cocktail glass
*“Bulliet” Rye used to reflect the film’s time period, while Kahlua coffee liqueur symbolizes Hugh getting up to get his revenge.
The Cover Up
- 2 oz. Blanco Tequila
- ½ oz. Pineapple Juice
- ½ oz. Lime Juice
- ½ oz. Simple Syrup
- ½ oz. Cointreau
- Splash of Malbec
Shake all ingredients, except the wine. Pour over rocks. Float the Malbec over the drink, garnish with a cherry and orange flag.
*Floating wine over the cocktail represents the “cover up”
Storm on Mars
- 5 oz. Beefeater Gin
- ½ oz. Lillet
- ½ oz. Orange Juice
- Splash of Grenadine
- 1 dash of Angostura bitters
Shake and pour into a cocktail glass. Drop a single cherry into the bottom of the glass.
*Cocktail appears to be a red storm in the glass
The Big Short
- 2 oz. Hennessey Cognac
- 2 oz. Sweet Vermouth
- 1 oz. Green Chartruese
- 1 oz. Lemon Juice
Shake and pour over rocks.
*The slightly green appearance signifies money.
